Making a noise!

Did you know that St Swithun's has the largest peal of bells in the whole of Sussex?

To put this in context, this is bigger than St Paul's or Westminster Abbey!

There are 13 bells in total - a full peal of 12 plus an extra 'sharp second'. They were recast between 1982 and 1985 in Holland thanks to the hard work of the local ringers at the time, who raised the funds.

This is a close-up of 'The Ringers' Bell'. The text on it reads: "EIJSBOUTS ASTENSIS ME FECIT ANNO MCMLXXXII", which translates as "Made in the foundry of Eijsbouts in 1982".

We have a small, dedicated team of bellringers who ring most Sunday mornings and practise regularly on Wednesday evenings. If this sounds 'appealing' and you'd like to find out more, please contact the Parish Office on 01342 325026 or admin@swithhq.org.uk
