Mothers' Union
FAITH IN ACTION
Praying - Enabling - Campaigning
Mothers' Union is an International Christian charity that seeks to support families worldwide. In over 80 countries our members share one heartfelt vision - to bring about a world where God's love is shown through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships. This is not a vague hope, but a goal we actively pursue through prayer, programmes, policy work and community relationships.
Mothers’ Union was founded in 1876 by Mary Sumner, wife of a Hampshire clergyman. Its purpose was to build a network of Christians who would encourage parents in caring for their children, physically, mentally and spiritually. It now has 4 million members worldwide, united by our shared belief in the importance of the family and the desire to bring about a world where God’s love is shown through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships. Our own branch at St Swithun’s celebrates 106 years in 2018.
Our members are not all mothers, or even women! We enjoy serving Christ in our community, meeting together for prayer and worship, discussions and social events. We support local Mothers' Union projects such as Parenting, Contact Centres and Gatwick Detainees. We are part of Chichester Diocese Mothers' Union .
