Music and the choir

St. Swithun’s has a choral tradition going back many years, and now has one of the best church choirs in the diocese.  The choir leads the people in their regular worship of God at church most Sundays, and also plays an important role in special festivals and celebrations throughout the church’s year.

The PCC employs a professional Director of Music  to train the choir, conduct, and to play the organ. He is supported by an Assistant Director of Music who is also a professional musician in his own right. The choir practises every Friday evening from 7.30-9.00pm, and takes part in the Sung Eucharist every Sunday morning - apart from the first Sunday of the month when we hold a Choral Evensong instead. It's a close-knit friendly group that enjoys the privilege of worshipping God through beautiful music. The choir is currently made up of about a dozen adult members, but would welcome new singers with some vocal experience and ability, especially tenors and basses. If you are interested in joining then please contact the Director of Music, Adrian Goss .
